The Waunakee Community School District Aquatic Center features an 8 lane, 25 yard pool. The Aquatic Center is home to the Waunakee Warriors Girls and Boys High School Swim Teams. The facility is also the home pool for the WAVE USA Swim Team.
The Waunakee Aquatic Center offers American Red Cross swimming lessons, family swims, adult lap/fitness swims, and masters swimming.
Residents and non-residents (additional fee) are welcome to use the facility and register for classes.

Preschool Level 1
Requirements: 3-5 years old. NOT in 5-Year Old Kindergarten. Minimum Skills: No minimum skills required to enroll.
Swimmers are introduced to basic aquatic skills, which children continue to build on as they progress through the program. In addition, children start developing positive attitudes and safe practices around the water in Preschool Aquatics Level 1. All skills are performed with support.
Preschool Level 2
Requirements: 3-5 years old. NOT in 5-Year Old Kindergarten. Proficiency Required to Enroll:
Independently enter and exit water
Open eyes under the water to retrieve submerged objects
Submerge mouth, nose and eyes
Blow bubbles for 3 seconds
Float on back 5 seconds with ears in the water (can be supported)
Front & back glide 2 body lengths and recovery (can be supported)
EXIT SKILL SEQUENCE (can be supported):
Enter independently, using either the ramp, steps or side, travel at least 5 yards, submerge to your mouth and blow bubbles for at least 3 seconds, then safely exit the water. (Children can walk, move along the gutter or "swim.")
Front glide at least 2 body lengths, roll to a back float for 3 seconds and recover to a vertical position.
Preschool Level 3
Requirements: 3-5 years old. NOT in 5-Year Old Kindergarten. Proficiency Required to Enroll:
Independently enter and exit water
Bobbing 5X must be done independently demonstrating breath control
Open eyes under the water to retrieve submerged objects
Float on back 5 seconds with ears in the water (demonstrate with assistance)
Front & back glide 2 body lengths and recovery (demonstrate with assistance)
Recover front & back float/glide to vertical position in chest deep water (demonstrate with assistance)
Roll from front to back and back to front (demonstrate with assistance)
Treading water using arm and leg action ~ 15 seconds (demonstrate with assistance)
Combined arm and leg action on the front & back for 3 body lengths (demonstrate with assistance)
EXIT SKILL SEQUENCE (with assistance):
Glide on front for at least 2 body lengths, roll to back, float on back for 15 seconds, then recover to a vertical position.
Glide on back for at least 2 body lengths, roll to front, then recover to a vertical position.

Will work on comfort in the water, breath control and floating. All skills are supported and swimmers will work towards independence.

Push off in a streamlined position, then swim front crawl for 15 yards, change position and direction as necessary, swim elementary backstroke for 15 yards, then exit the water.
Level 5
Requirements: MUST BE IN 5-YEAR OLD KINDERGARTEN! Proficiency Required to Enroll:

Thunderstorm/Lightning Procedures/Closures❖ Waunakee Aquatic Center recognizes the National Federation of High School (NFHS) Sports Medical Advisory Committee and National
Lightning Safety Institutes recommendations.
❖ Swimming is NOT permitted during active lightning.
❖ During active storms, all water activities are suspended for 30 minutes after lightning is sighted or thunder is heard.
➢ Swimmers should move off the pool deck and out of the locker rooms.
❖ Water activities may resume after 30 minutes have passed without lightning/thunder.
❖ During WCSD programs or events, staff will monitor the weather.
➢ Decisions about canceling programs or lessons cannot be made until near the start of the activity as the weather changes rapidly.
❖ Waunakee Wave families should contact their coaches regarding cancelations.

SUNDAY FAMILY SWIM will return SEPTEMBER 22, 2024
Spend quality time with your family at the pool from 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. The cost is $10.00 per immediate family. Must pre-register online for the visit. Children must be accompanied by adults and adults must be accompanied by children. Immediate family only please!

The Waunakee Aquatic Center - American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course.
Lifeguard Training Course Prerequisites
To participate in the Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) course, participants must:
▪ Be at least 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the Lifeguarding course.
▪ Successfully complete the two prerequisite swimming skills evaluations: Prerequisite 1: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence w/out stopping to rest:
• Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed)
• Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs
• Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both Prerequisite 2:
Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
• Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed).
• Submerge to a depth of 7 - 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
• Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
• Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING (r.24 program) BLENDED LEARNING COURSE DETAILS
NO COURSES SCHEDULED AT THIS TIME
To earn certification, participants must:
▪ Complete all online course content in advance of the corresponding in-person sessions.
▪ Attend the entire course and participate in all class sessions.
▪ Actively participate in all course activities, including assuming various roles during skill practices, skill drills, activities and scenarios.
▪ Demonstrate proficiency in all skills.
▪ Pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of 80 percent. ▪ Pass the three (3) final skill assessments which include:
o Assessment 1—Timed Response
Participants must complete a passive submerged rescue, extricate with the assistance of an assisting rescuer, and rapid assessment (including the delivery of 2 initial ventilations by either rescuer) within 1 minute, 30 seconds, and then provide 3 minutes of single-rescuer CPR. o Assessment 2—Rotation and Scanning
Participants must rotate into the lifeguard station, conduct surveillance from the station for 1 minute, and rotate out of the station. o Assessment 3—Final Team Response Testing Scenario
Participants must perform a passive submerged rescue, extrication and rapid assessment, followed by multiple-rescuer CPR and use of AED and BVM resuscitator.
