We recognize that good nutrition and physical activity are essential for the long-term health of children. Childhood obesity has reached epidemic proportions; Type 2 diabetes and other childhood-onset of adult diseases also have reached alarming proportions.

Our commitment to be part of a solution led us to our Food 4 Life initiative, which has been our guiding principle at Taher Inc. since 2006 and includes:

• introducing children to new and different foods
• focusing on more scratch cooking, using less processed foods
• increasing the offerings of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and legumes
• utilizing more locally grown products when available
• providing additional opportunities for development of our cooks by working with our regional and corporate chefs, and through chef training seminars

We have eliminated all trans fats in products we purchase, and use low sodium bases in our recipes. We have specified milk without Bovine Growth Hormone, BGH.

Our elementary menu standards follow the White House Initiative, and the HealthierUS School Challenge.

We continue to expand our Farm to School Program to bring in more fruits and vegetables grown locally when in season. Students will be able to see the name of the farm and location when these wonderful farm fresh items are served.

2024-2025 Catering Menu

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year from the Food Services Department! The Waunakee Community School District works in partnership with Taher, Inc. to provide meals for our families and staff. We take great pride in our meal programs and the selection of food that we offer to our students and staff. We look forward to your partnership this school year.

Lunch Menus and Prices
Lunch menus can be found on our school district website, under Departments/Food Services. Menus are updated on the website by the 15th of the previous month. The Food Service prices are also listed on the website.

Infinite Campus Fund Balance Instructions and Reminders
All food service accounts are pre-funded. Please note that we will be sending low and no balance reminders.  

• Need help accessing Infinite Campus or setting up an account? Please send an email to District Registrar, Julie Gengler, at wcsd_registrar@waunakee.k12.wi.us.

• Dollars are can be added to lunch accounts via Infinite Campus application.

  • Families can login to their Parent Portal within Infinite Campus. You can view balances and previous purchases under the Food Services tab. You can also add funds to your account. Click here for instructions on how to add funds to your account.

  • Staff can login to their Infinite Campus account. You can view Food Services under the Employee Self-Service tab. You can add funds to your account, view purchases, etc. under this tab. Click here for instructions on how to add funds to your account.

• Funds may be added to food service accounts in-person at TLC building (101 School Drive, Waunakee), with cash or check payable to Waunakee Community School District.

• All food service accounts will need to have funds available at the time of purchase. No charges will be permitted if your account does not have a positive balance. This topic is important to have a conversation with your child about. Food Service staff will NOT allow purchases if there is a negative balance in the food service account. 

• Cash will be accepted as a form of payment for purchase.

• There are restrictions available for parents/guardians to place on your student(s) Food Service account. Infinite Campus offers a daily maximum and an a la carte block. Please reach out to the Food Service Office for more information. These restrictions are not available on the Parent Portal App.

Free/Reduced Application and Information
The Waunakee Community School District does not participate in the federal USDA meal program for the 2024-2025 school year. The District does offer a local meal program that utilizes the income information from the USDA meal program. All families who wish to receive free or reduced meals/milk must fill out an application form and submit for approval. All information provided on the application will be used for the purpose of determining eligibility and may be verified at any time during the school year by the school or other program officials. Applications may be submitted at any time during the school year. Please visit our Free and Reduced website for more information.

If families qualify for the Reduced portion of the Free/Reduced application, families will no longer have to pay that fee. The school district will be covering this reduced portion cost. In addition to this added benefit, we have included an all-inclusive meal plan for students qualifying for Free/Reduced Meals. The plan will include a variety of meal options, including Meal Deals and Premium Meals (Chef, Creation, and Grill). Students wishing to purchase A La Carte items must have funds in their account to purchase these items.

Students who have food allergies, including peanut, tree nut, and gluten, can receive a special meal based on an approved menu to address their specific dietary needs. The allergen menu is dietician approved and runs on a rotating basis. The menu is aimed at gluten, peanut, and tree nut allergens, not dairy or egg. These meals cannot be altered from the stated menu.

A required Special Diet Statement form is linked below. Once Taher Food Service receives the completed form, including a healthcare provider’s signature, they will communicate with the family and how to order the meals and share appropriate contact information for the particular school.

Taher staff will also notify both the student's teacher and their school health office on the first day a student is taking a dietary meal so one of them can be present to guide the student through their first pick-up.
